Butchering Chickens – Guest Vlog

Posted on May 24, 2019May 24, 2019 by Margaret Myers

Meet Owen Godbold, my fellow farmer-friend. He’s the fifth of eight siblings – all boys but one. He’s homeschooled, energetic, very humorous, and a chicken-lover. He reveres Joel Salatin and has a vast lore of knowledge concerning poultry and pastures. And he makes cool vlogs!

So since my dad is out of the work-picture with a torn Achilles, Owen stepped up to help out with butchering our family’s meat birds. (See them growing up here and here.)

Here’s his vlog of our chicken-butchering exploits: Renegade chickens included.

Before watching, though, please do realize that this is real footage of butchering. The way we live is often bloody and gutsy, but (as I’ve written before) I feel like this is an ethical way of eating, for us at least. So I invite you to virtually share this serious, thought-provoking part of farming with us:

We are devoted to sustainable, clean farming practices that protect the health of the environment, our customers, our animals, and ourselves.

We use traditional, nature-based farming practices, rejecting the industrialization of agriculture.

Animal welfare is a priority on our farm.
