Greetings! I’m Margaret Myers, and I’m in love with the seventy-five acres that I grew up on with my two sisters.
I’m deeply grateful to my parents, who are willing to let me farm their land and who first gave me the freedom to find my calling as a farmer. They are a constant source of encouragement, inspiration, and help.
By the way, if I’m passing out thanks, I can’t forget Sweet Georgia Brown, our homestead milk cow. She’s the real farm-manager. I’ve never met a sassier animal, but I like to think her gorgeousness makes up for it.
When I’m not battling weeds in the garden or coaxing the pigs back into a pen, I like to pull out a new book (I always have a want-to-read list) – or maybe an old one. I’m a Tolkien fan and have devoted way too much time memorizing Elrond’s family tree. (Poor Georgia has to listen to Tolkien poetry every morning: I can milk a gallon in the time it takes to quote “Song of Durin”). Also, I play chess with anyone who wants to play with me – and even some who don’t. I like listening to Billy Joel, drinking hot chocolate, and making sourdough bread.
But most of all, I love pulling on my boots & going out to enjoy the farm. It’s not all about getting things done – it’s also about noticing that the little maple is filling out, finding a robin’s nest in the rose bush, and standing on that hill where there is the best view in the world.
Can there be anything more wonderful than caring for the land that has cared for me?
